S. L. MacGregor Mathers

1854–1918

Samuel Liddell MacGregor Mathers (1854-1918) was a co-founder of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and an influential translator of occult and magical texts, including "The Key of Solomon" and "The Kabbalah Unveiled." His English translation of "The Book of the Sacred Magic of Abramelin the Mage," first published in 1898 with a second edition in 1900, became the standard English-language edition of the work for most of the twentieth century.
